Les Nouveaux Démocrates (ND) is a progressive political party in Mauritius, founded on 18 April 2024 by a coalition of citizens determined to build a more inclusive, fair, and forward-looking nation. Formed out of a desire to offer a credible alternative to the political status quo, the party brings together people from all walks of life around shared values and a bold commitment to renewal.
Rooted in the ideals of democracy, ecology, and meritocracy, ND champions a new kind of politics — one based on accountability, opportunity, and citizen participation. Our movement believes that governance must be transparent and inclusive, development must be sustainable and people-centred, and every Mauritian must have a fair chance to succeed based on their effort and potential.
In the 2024 general elections, Les Nouveaux Démocrates joined forces with the Labour Party (PTR), the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), and Rezistans ek Alternativ (ReA) under the banner of the Alliance du Changement. The coalition secured a historic win, gaining 60 out of 62 seats in the National Assembly. ND proudly contributed three elected Members of Parliament: Honourable Khushal Lobine, elected as First Member for Constituency No.15 (La Caverne and Phoenix) with the highest number of votes nationally; Honourable. Richard Duval, appointed as Minister of Tourism; and Honourable. Véronique Leu Govind, serving as Junior Minister within the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
Les Nouveaux Démocrates is supported by an active Bureau National, a dynamic network, and two key wings: Femmes Démocrates, which works to promote women’s leadership and inclusion in public life, and Jeunes Démocrates, which gives young people the tools, platform, and voice to shape the future.
More than a political party, ND is a movement — built by people, for people — working to create a Mauritius that is just, green, and full of opportunity for all.
